On Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018 the Chicago HubSpot User Group gathered for a presentation by the HubSpot Academy's Lindsay Thibeault on aligning as an inbound organization.
Inbound is evolving and it's important to keep your teams aligned for success. Whether you’re on the marketing team, the sales team, or the services team, there is value in doing business in a helpful, human, and holistic way.
At the HubSpot Academy, the Inbound Certification has focused primarily on marketing strategies and tactics. In its latest iteration, the Inbound Certification now features HubSpot executives teaching you how to run an inbound business, from marketing to sales to services.
Lindsay, content marketer at HubSpot Academy, worked hard on this new, holistic Inbound Certification, and we were so excited to have her come talk about going all inbound at the Chicago HubSpot User Group.
We decided to switch it up from our usual pizza or Potbelly's this time and try something new for our meetup food! We got a delicious spread from Bang Chop Thai and Saigon Sisters!
The meetup was graciously live tweeted by our Elite Social Volunteer, Denae DiVincenzo from Neiger Design! We also had two fantastic check-in volunteers - Isobel and Dana. Think you've got what it takes to live tweet a HUG? Want to help with check in? Email us to get on the list and you could be next!
Interesting framing for a setting up a strategy. Thank you to @LindsayRegina for uncovering new perspectives at tonight's #ChiHUG event about #inbounding and how to #goallinbound pic.twitter.com/7w7lCPCD4e— NeigerDesign (@neigerdesign) May 3, 2018

What Does Inbound Mean?
Before helping #ChiHUG members align their organizations around Inbound, @HubSpotAcademy’s @LindsayRegina helps align all #ChiHUG members around a core definition. #HubSpotting pic.twitter.com/bCiLZFjcvg— Sarah Corley (@srcorley) May 3, 2018
Lindsay brought along some workbooks to help us all brainstorm, get our ideas down, and answer some tough questions about inbound at our organizations. Before we got too deep in the weeds, we took a step back to talk about what "inbound" means to us. Then, Lindsay shared the answers she received when she asked HubSpot executives this same question while doing interviews for the new Inbound Certification.
Putting Inbound into Action
Lindsay's workbook had some great exercises including filling in questions "mad-lib" style to help define the stages of our buyer's journey and help our organizations better align around our personas. We also worked on our "jobs to be done" and "hero statements."
Yesterday was a great refresher about what Inbound is, how it’s changing to be future proof, and what I may have forgot in the midst of my growth. Thanks @LindsayRegina @ChiAreaHUG @stephcasstevens https://t.co/JK8gzY4Gj9— Anthony☃️❄️👨🏽💻 (@zepedatweet) May 3, 2018
Introducing the ChiHUG Playlist
On the registration for this meetup we asked what pre-HUG jam you'd like to hear at the meetups. We got an amazing 135 responses and, after a few duplicates and a few edits for appropriateness... added over 100 songs to this Chicago HubSpot User Group Spotify playlist!
A few special shout outs to Jim from Concurra and Patrick from ASUG who gave us a throwback with Mr. Brightside (always a classic). Also, thanks to Denae for suggesting "Roses - so it can be just like INBOUND ;)" #nailedit. Andrea Galvez decided to Rick Roll us! And finally, thanks to everyone who included a few Chicago favorites. We got suggestions for everything from Kanye West's Homecoming to Sweet Home Chicago, the Bulls theme, and Go Cubs Go!
Sarah and I, without even discussing it, both suggested Lupe Fiasco songs! #greatminds
We'll be rockin' out to it pre-HUG meetup from now on but feel free to follow it and use it any time you need to get pumped up! We give Barney Stinson's Get Psyched Mix a run for it's money.
Looking for a job? Ready to hire?
Ready to hire your next inbound team member? Email us your open job position and we'll add it to our jobs page. Looking for a job? Check out the list of job openings shared by HUG members! This time it even includes summer interns looking for places to intern!
See you in June!
That's it for this time! The next HUG is on Wednesday, June 20th and will feature HubSpot’s software engineer, Matt Coley. One of our goals for this year was to have HUG events that are geared towards building up the developer community and this is our first one!
It’ll happen in the Western Chicago Suburbs at Solemn Oath Brewery in Naperville, IL. Based on the space, this HUG is limited to 50 people only. We’ll be talking about product updates and we’ll have a more technical Q&A.
All are welcome to attend, however, designers and developers will have priority registration. Those with a HubSpot Design certification and who know code will really benefit from this presentation, so if that’s not you, please let the appropriate person at your organization know about this event!. An email with more details and the registration link will be sent out in mid-May!
